14 weeks old and already going to work

This week Mummy had to go back to work - and Ian is coming with me for now. Its been an adjustment - we are both tired. Yesterday he came home and relaxed with his horsey that Brian and Tina Steward gave him (thanks guys!). Then he played with daddy for quite a while looking around and standing. He's much more alert these days and I think is frustrated when he's just lying still because he wants to be up and looking around at things. he got himself really upset last night with all the activity and needed to calm down with his mom - we are still having a tough time with the bottles - we just keep going from one extreme to the other with that.

Trying to get Ian to smile

Both Mummy and Daddy tried to get Ian to smile on Friday for the camera - with little success. You can see a smile peaking out here and there. We hope that by Thursday he's smiling for everyone at Thanksgiving. Yesterday we took him to visit Santa at the mall and he was very good while his picture was taken - didn't wake up at all so we have an eyes closed picture. Today he has his first playdate with one of the other babies from the NICU - Ryan - he and his mom are coming over. Then tomorrow is PT in the morning and mom's group in the afternoon. Ian's a busy guy!

Ian at twelve weeks old

As you can see we are trying to master the tummy- Ian's much more alert now and makes all sorts of noises. If you wait long enough too and speak in a silly enough voice you may get a smile out of him too...

All Smiles

Ian's first smile was for Daddy tonight- but I think that it was only because he napped so well for me all day today...

Off Schedule

So Ian has a bit of a schedule going now - I've kept track of his feedings for about three weeks now and a few things are apparent - he takes a long morning nap and a long afternoon nap before being up in the evenings to "play" when daddy gets home. Well that was out the window yesterday - we went out for breakfast and he was fine. But something I ate must have had milk in it - probably the pancakes. I thought that he was fine if milk was just something in something else but apparently not. He was off the rest of the day. Very gassy and very cranky. It also didn't help that he likes to stay awake whenever Daddy was around and so he had a hard time sleeping. Then he wanted to nurse a lot. That was rough on me. So I started pumping more. Today is a little better. This morning we realized that he likes the softness of our bed. Of course we can't have soft things in his crib at night but today we've got him with a blanket folded underneath him and Mr. Ducky as well. maybe tonight we will just put Mr. Ducky in with him and see what happens. Friday he went to the doctor for his RSV shot - he was good and tolerated the big needle as well as can be expected. They weighed him and he was 8 pounds 13 ounces - up five ounces from Monday. By Thanksgiving we should have a 10 pounder on our hands! He's outgrown newborn clothes and I've been washing the next size up onesies today to swich over. I realized he outgrew the newborn onesies when one I was putting on him got stuck on his head.

The ER and Infant Acne

So Ian had this really red rashy stuff all over his face all last week and it got worse as the week went on. At the doctor's on Monday for his stuffy nose he told us it was just acne. Well it got all red and sandpaper like and on Sunday morning was starting to puss over. By the afternoon his right ear and eye were puffed up and our neighbor Debi told us to call the doctor's office. The on call doctor advised us to go to the ER to have it checked out because he couldn't say that it wasn't infected. So off we went in his Patriots outfit and he was checked out - two hours later it wsa confirmed that it was infact acne - a really bad case of it. Monday we went back to the doctor's and it was getting better - the scales had dried up a bit and he now looks like he has really bad dry skin. But hey - at least the Patriots won and he had his outfit on. The picture below was right before the hospital. As you can see my little stinker has gotten bigger - he weighed 8 pounds 8 ounces on Monday. He is really filling out his clothes now. His head sometimes looks really big in pictures and its getting bigger. And yes- his cheeks are very chubby. He's almost exclusively nursing now - maybe getting one or two bottles a day. Ian recognizes his Mummy and likes to look around a lot. there is still a lot of fussiness with him - but most of it goes away if you cuddle him after he eats so he doesn't get gas.

Getting ready for the big game - little did we realize it was going to turn into a hospital trip.

Ian on Monday morning - the redness is going down a bit and he's ready for the doctor.

Ian modeling his sweater that Grammy made him - we have to roll the arms up on everything!

ten weeks old...

And Grandma St. Germain came to visit. She arrived on Halloween night and Ian enjoyed her visit. He's had a good week - Friday he was strolled downtown and then went to his first yard sale. His face is a little rashy - its always something! So tomorrow its going to be time to call the doctor again. He and daddy are hanging out on the couch this afternoon - they have the same relaxed look about them. Ian starts getting his RSV shots this week - he's more at risk to get RSV with his preemie status so he gets the monthly shot this winter. There is no immunization for it - just this antibody shot once a month until March. Luckily after the first dose the nurse will come to our house to give it.

Halloween part two

Ian and Daddy put on their costumes for their two trick or treating stops - doesn't Daddy look thrilled? Then he left to pick up Grandma at the airport and Ian helped Mummy hand out candy- doesn't he look thrilled?
