Happy guy since Monday

Ian's in a much better mood since his tubes. I wish I could say he is sleeping later - but nope - he was up at 5 yesterday and 5:50 this morning. Which is a little better than the end of last week when it was averaging 4 or 4:30. On Tuesday night we swear Ian said Mumma - Debbi and Peter were witnesses. He crawled across their kitchen floor saying it - then he climbed my legs, got picked up and wacked me which is his way of telling us he wants to nurse and go to sleep. Ian's new thing is smiling with his mouth wide open. He also avoids naps like this morning when I put him down fast asleep and found him after my shower standing in his crib smiling at me. Today is the last day of daycare!

What a monday!

Ian had visitors over the weekend - Grampy and Grammy Lynch came down to see him before his ear procedure. The procedure went well this morning. The only tough part was seeing the little guy so upset because he couldn't eat before. If he would have slept until 6 then it wouldn't have been so long - but he was up at 4:30 AM. Ian is getting good at standing on everything. Grammy and Grampy brought him this walker thing. he loves it but we need to play with him with it since it rolls quite easily and Ian doesn't know what to do with his feet. He is also doing what we call the Popeye face a lot. When you see the picture you will see what we mean. This morning when we were rolling out of the recovery room Mommy was holding him and he was waving (backwards) and blowing kisses to everyone. It was very cute. Then he clapped his hands and seemed to say YEA when he was rolling down the hall as if in relief to be done. There was a slight throw up problem here at home - we think because he could finally eat that he stuffed himself a little too much. For some reason he always throws up on Mommy - this time it was all down the front of me on the stairs going upstairs.

Eleven months old!

Where has the time gone? Just yesterday I was pregnant, finishing my conferences for the summer and not even near ready for this little guy! We still aren't ready and have to be quick to stay one step ahead of him. He's seeming to do his preemie catch up all at once. Not content to stick with crawling he is now trying to climb everything he sees. He is also trying to walk when he is standing holding onto something. Ian still doesn't get the "don't let go" concept. He also wants anything that you have, camera, newspaper, cupy, anything. And screams when you don't give it to him. He is pretty picky eating sometimes. We try new things but its easier just to give him what he likes. Now its pancakes - and if I can sneak some blueberries in to make a fruit serving I do. He attacks them when placed in front of him. He is also doing this weird scrunchy smiley face - we've yet to get it on film. But he smiles nice and likes to laugh with you. Today he is coming to work with Mommy since Daddy has started working Tuesday days again. Right now he's trying to take a nap since he freaked out on me right after breakfast.

Ian update

So the little guy is officially crawling. We've seen him do it outside on the lawn to keep his face out of the grass but yesterday Daddy picked him up at daycare and Ian got up on his hands and knees and crawled to him. He's decided that he prefers this mode of transportation better than the army crawl but still goes back to that tried and true method when he wants to get somewhere fast. He is also pulling up on anything and everything and sometimes lets go - we've still got to work on the concept that Mommy or Daddy might not be holding on all the time so letting go might not be a good idea. Mommy and Ian visited Daddy at work today to make sure that his swings were working ok there - after a test run Ian gave them a thumbs up and then proceeded to charm all the ladies at the club like usual. If you notice in the pictures he still loves that darn wooden spoon!

Update on the ears - we are definitely doing tubes. The surgery is scheduled for July 28th - day surgery at Danbury hospital. Just what we need on Mommy's last week of her old job and the week before the new job. But he should be back to normal the day after the procedure. But that means that Mommy is going to cancel going to Boston with her friends for girl's weekend that weekend. Ian's tummy is sort of upset from all the medication he's been on and he was vomiting earlier this week - but he's held his milk down and only wants to nurse, have a bottle or eat yogurt. Grandma St. Germain will remember that from her visit here - at least he's eating a bit this time even if it is only yogurt and milk. The doctor said as long as he does that its fine and we can get back on track with eating after he's better.

Mommy's back

Daddy and Ian survived four days without Mommy - but boy were they glad to see me yesterday when they picked me up at the airport. Ian is turing into a big boy. From what Daddy told me he's gotten more adventurous and started having no fear when it comes to crawling, pulling up, and generally exploring his surroundings. He now pulls himself up no problem to the second shelf on the changing table. We are definitly going to have to move all that stuff up higher. He also pulls himself to standing in the crib but can't figure out how to get down - sort of the same thing that happened a few weeks ago with sitting. Its amazing - it is like overnight he's decided to play catch up to his real age and do everything in fast forward. He is eating anything we put in front of him - well he tries it anyway and might not like it but at least tries it. this morning he refused his cereal and ate a pancake instead. He much prefers to feed himself. With all of this climbing and pulling up we are going to have to get some sturdy stuff for him to explore in our playroom/office. If anyone has any good suggestions on that type of stuff let me know!

Ian is moving and shaking lately. Here is some video that I have uploaded. As you can see he has quite the personality. In the past two weeks he's progressed from pushing up on his toes to pushing up to standing completely holding onto something. He is giggly too despite the ear problems.

Ear Update

Ian went to the ENT with Daddy today. Turned out that he still has fluid in his ears and she couldn't even see the eardrums. We are on another antibiotic and ear drop and we go back in two weeks. If the ears are not clear then Ian will probably be getting tubes in his ears. Not what I wanted to hear. So keep your fingers crossed that this stuff gets rid of it and with daycare ending Ian won't be picking up as many germs.

Smiley guy

Ian is doing this new smile where he scrunches up his entire face and screams with delight. Its tough to capture with the camera. Here were a few attempts this morning. Obviously some of his clothes have some room to grow - this onesie is 9-12 months and he's swimming in it. He still fits into some three months clothes. Go figure?

Update from CT

So Ian's ears are still not clear. He's been off the antibiotic since Monday and the drops a few days and yesterday he woke up with gunk in his ears again. The doctor renewed the drops again and we have an appoinment on Tuesday morning with the specialist. I think we might try Debbi and Peter's suggestion and try garlic drops this weekend. Who knows - anything will be good at this point. He doesn't seem to be in pain but he has been shaking his head a lot the past day or so. And he is always so fussy when waking up. I thought about it this morning and he was never really like that. I could always change his diaper before feeding him but now he's screaming his head off and can't wait to nurse. He has slept pretty good the past few nights, 7:30 ish by the time he falls asleep until 5 or 6. This morning was a 5 AM morning - he's back for his two hour after waking nap.

Other Ian developments. Daddy swears that Ian will make kissy noises back at you if you make kissies in the air to him. I haven't seen it. He also likes to roughhouse with Daddy and Mommy has to remind them to not rile up the baby. Eating- Ian is showing a preference for only eating yogurt. He will eat his cereal but much prefers yogurt to ANYTHING else. I'm trying to introduce new things but he just wants yogurt these days. He will hold out for it too. This morning we tried scrambled eggs - he wanted nothing to do with them except to squeeze them in his fingers. Hamburger went over well last weekend when he had a few bites of mine. He likes cheese but just doesn't know how to chew it. Which is surprising with all these teeth. Ian LOVES his new music table. I've got some video to upload of him playing with it. He pulls himself up to it to standing and has figured out how to make some of the toys on it work. He gets a look on his face like he is so proud of himself and can't contain his excitment. Its fun to watch.

We are home today (like usual for a Thursday) and Mommy has tomorrow off but Daddy has to work because they are doing a 4th of July party at the club. Depending on the little guy's ears we may or may not go.
