Day with Grandma

Grandad didn't feel well so they were in town an extra day. He stayed at the hotel and napped while Grandma got her Ian fill. Here are some pictures from the day (which was cold and wet).

Thanksgiving

We had Thanksgiving in CT with Ian's Grandma and Granddad St. Germain. He put on a show for them and entertained everyone with his newly expanding vocabulary - SSS is snake and bee! (And yes - he needs a haircut badly)

Fifteen month appoinment

Ian had his 15 months appointment yesterday. He was still getting over a stuffy nose so he sounded weezy to the doctor. Ian didn't care though he had a lot of fun making kissy noises to Dr. Cohen. Thank goodness he was in a good mood since it was 10:15 and he usually would have been asleep then. They weighed and measured him and we still have a little guy on our hands. 28 1/2 inches tall and 16 pounds 11 ounces. Yikes - guess we will have a ways to go before he ever sits facing front in the car. He grew an inch in three months and gained about a pound and a half. If by the 18 month appointment we don't see more of a gain the doctor may want us to go to a specialist. But - he's not worried now but just wants to watch Ian because he was already going to be small because he is a preemie. Other than that I think Ian is all caught up to his 15 months. Other than walking, I could answer yes to all the questions about development. And he's getting more confident with the walking every day - today he stood and took three steps to the window, yesterday he wanted to walk laps holding one of my hands, so any day now he will just take to it I think. He is so fast with his crawl that unless he has motivation to do it walking is an afterthought to him. He has about 10 words/sounds, five signs, and understands about 5-6 different questions (ie, do you want a bath and he goes to the bathroom, do you want to eat in your chair and he goes to the highchair). We've also seen him recognize more things in different places where he hasn't seen them before. For instance, in a book if he sees a star for the first time, without telling him what it is, he starts signing star and looks at us to make sure that it is a star. He also signs star for triangles and squares but we are working on it.

Come on mom - I want my MTV

This was the way the whole morning went today. Ian is at a stage where he wants to do whatever you are doing. He likes to sit on mommy's chair and loves her blanket. He also has is own remote but we know he doesn't know what to do with it because of the limited TV watching that goes on in our house when he is awake. This morning though I was watching the news (which I hadn't since early last week) and Ian wanted up on my chair. He was a little mad when I didn't give him my remote. Shortly after we went to the kitchen for some before nap yogurt. But it took him over an hour and a half to finally calm down and sleep. Many choruses of Baby Beluga, Twinkle Twinkle, and furiously pulling his quilt from the wall into his crib, the little guy is finally asleep. Will someone tell him he doesn't need to wake up at 5:30? Sleeping until 7 will cut out all this morning nap nonsense and he can just take one nap in the afternoon rather than go through this song and dance (literally) twice a day. Lets see - other cool Ian things - he makes more animal sounds - yesterday it was zzzz - for a Bee buzzing, sssss - for a snake, bra- for Zebra, duh - for duck, baboon still for balloon, da - for anything he likes, mamamma - when he's upset or tired, and he also makes the train sounds a lot when he hears the train in the distance and when he is walking around pulling the train with mommy or daddy. He still needs one of our hands to walk but he pulls it with the other. He is zooming around with his push toy and navigating the doorways like he's been doing it for years.

Ian and the runny nose

Yes- this week has been full of tissues and snot. And that was just Mommy. Just kidding- Ian's been a little under the weather- not as bad as other colds but we've stuck close to the house. We were going to take Ian to Stamford to the balloon parade today but it was 19 degrees when we woke up and he's almost better so we just don't want to put him through that just for something to do. Plus he needs to get better for when his Grandma and Grandad St. Germain get here for Thanksgiving. There haven't been too many photo shoots this week because of the constant nose wiping. But here are some since Grampy asked.

Ian's weekend getaway

Most people sleep in when they go away for the weekend - not Ian. He went to Grammy and Grampy's this weekend and woke up about 4:30 each day. Last night he even woke up at 1:15AM for a bit. maybe it was all the different toys, maybe he doesn't like the pack and play, or maybe he's just a crazy baby. Oh well. He's asleep now after a great ride home. Really - he did very well. Kept himself entertained for about half the ride and asleep the rest. His new thing is saying BUHBye ALOT. He must have told Auntie Colleen and Uncle Ken BUHbyeeeee for about 10 minutes. He can show you where his head is and is pretty good at animal sounds (doggie woofs being the go to sound when he doesn't know that sound something) - and does anyone know what a giraffe sounds like? Because really - we'd like to know so we can make the right sound and not bahbah like a sheep...

Crazy Baby

Well - not he's not THAT crazy but a day in the life of Ian might make you wonder what is going through his head. He loves books as you can see below. I think he definitely take after me with that one. He also likes to crawl into his box (yes we still have the box from the car seat in the house -it moves from one room to another when I am sick of having this huge thing underfoot). Because of his obsession with the box he's taken to crawling into everything. This morning he crawled into his laundry bag. The bag collapses and he found himself stuck. Sort of like a lobster in a trap. He also likes playing under his crib - I guess its sort of a hiding place. He crawled in there last night for a few minutes before bedtime and we had to play the Where's Ian game for a bit. Mommy and Ian are going to MA this weekend and leaving Daddy behind to putter about the house.

I posted this article on Facebook but I know some readers of the blog aren't on there - this article is exactly what every new mom is going through out there on the playground! Shayna - I thought of you and that mom you knew that got kicked out of the playgroup :)
