Last Y Program

Today was the last day for Ian's playgroup at the YMCA. They all wore costumes. It was hard to get good pictures of Ian. But here are a few of my pumpkin. He loves the toolbench - always goes to it first.

Classic Ian

Tonight Ian went to the store with Mommy and Daddy and got a new BaBoon - a halloween one with spiders on it. He held onto it throughout the entire store. I could keep track of where he and Daddy were at all times by watching the bobbing baboon in the store. He smiled at everyone and would wave hello at people. When we got home he and Daddy spent some time upstairs while Mommy took a work call. The baboon came everywhere. When I got upstairs he was in fine spirts. The newest thing is that he is learning how to go down off of things (stairs, couch etc) he now thinks that he needs to go backwards to get off his rug and onto the wood floor. The big 1/2 inch drop really gets you there. The other thing that some people have seen is his headstand. He tends to do it while tired. But he puts his head on the floor and does a tripod looking thing. We've tried to get a picture or video but haven't been able to yet. We also saw Ian do his first sign tonight - for milk - he squeezed both hands and I said I thought he meant he wanted milk so Steven gave him his straw cup and sure enough he drank. That is the sign I do the least so its funny he did it first.

Derranged pumpkin

So Mommy wanted a pumpkin for Halloween - unfortunately the costume when on a hanger looks pumpkin-like makes Ian look like a crazy Halloween joker when on. Oh well - we missed his party yeserday for a slight headcold and went downtown for a few minutes before it rained to get some treats. Daddy made sure Ian's candy was eaten and we picked up a new favorite - a flag. The BaBoon as Ian calls it has already popped but don't tell him - mommy and daddy will most likely get him a nice Halloween BaBoon because his pumpkin from the wedding weekend has definitely seen a better day. Its laying low in the box right now. Ian is still blowing snot bubbles this morning but as Daddy is getting ready to go fishing he's getting a fly fishing lesson and seems really pleased about it.

Fall days with Ian

Ian likes to help Mommy rake leaves - well he only wants to hold the rake but does a good impression of me moving it back and forth. As for keeping the hat on his head - it stays on for about ten minutes then he's pulling it off. He has a stuffy nose again today so I think we are home and not going to our playgroup halloween party - I'm not sure who is more disappointed Ian or Mommy... maybe Mommy...

Ian's new car seat

We celebrated Ian moving up to his big boy car seat over the weekend. We had to do everything from do a trial run in the dining room, to explore the box that it came in. That was Sat. Sunday the seat was installed and we went for a great ride- he loved it and sang the whole way.

Ian and the couch

Ian's really getting good at climbing. There is a little thing called "no fear" and unfortunately my son has it. Here he is practicing "down" and being really pleased with himself.

Sleeping

Well - some of you know that Ian is an early riser. So early in fact that it is really getting to be a drain on Daddy and Mommy - Mommy especially! Daddy can stay in bed while mommy gets up to go to Ian. Starting this week we are going to get on a schedule - hopefully that will help and by the time daylight savings time happens we won't be waking at 3AM and I can adjust his schedule again to 6 AM. This morning was a little better- 5:45AM but of course I was up at 5 just waiting for him to wake up. I pushed his nap a little later this morning to 8:30 and hopefully we can get it to be between 8:30 and 9 each morning and leave time in the afternoon for an afternoon nap. The problem here is he doesn't like to nap in the afternoon and is exhausted by early evening leading to an early bed time. Last night we played after dinner - hard! He has learned that he can climb up on the couch (with help) and scoots to get down (again with help) but is getting bolder with his climbing. We've got to watch out!

Ian and the veil

I was very lax at pictures and video this weekend - here is one of the few I took.

Wedding Weekend

Colleen's wedding was great this weekend. I'd have pictures but something happened to our memory card so no pictures here until she gets some from other people or the photographer. Ian had a rough time sleeping while we were away and it is now my job to get him back on track. So far so good last night. Asleep by 7, woke at 1:30 for a snack, then awake for the day at 5 AM. He went back for a nap at 7:15. Now if I can get him to sleep until 6 without a wake up that would be great. The strange part is that for months he hasn't done an early morning wake up. Oh well.

He's starting to step away from things to get to other things - so walking is impending. he is also talking up a storm and singing like no tomorrow- like he did during Colleenie's wedding. Oh well - got to get going this morning.

Ian Update

So no pictures today - and I haven't copied the video to the computer yet. Ian is a wild man! Well - as wild as he gets. We went to the Y this morning for his program and the little guy had no fear of the bigger kids who are walking and he just shoved himself in between them for some time at the popular toys. He's not afraid of anything. He also has a fondness for trucks and will point to them constantly yelling "tha tha" his version of that. It gets so bad that I have to take him outside and up close and personal with the trucks he sees from his bedroom window. Ian's also mastered the stairs. He needs one of us behind him still as he climbs but he can get to the top of the whole flight like there is a woof woof waiting at the top of the stairs. Dogs are called woof woofs around here and no - he's still not getting one. We look at them all the time but no dog will ever cross this threshold.

Big Switch-a-roo

We switched the furniture around this weekend for our living and dining rooms. Now we have an extra big dining room and the living room is in the back. Ian likes the freedom - he has almost complete run of the downstairs. We just need to put the permanent gate up at the bottom of the stairs as he thinks he knows how to navigate the stairs now. As you can see the balloon is still going strong.

Boxed In

Ian received a present from Cousin Lucas yesterday and he loved it and the packaging it came in as you can see from the pictures and video.
