Coloring fool

Ian likes his crayons these days and asks for them repeatedly from the closet all day long. He colors in his book on his toy chest - I think we need a little table and chair for him next to mommy's desk so he can do his "work" while I do mine.

Swimming with the fishes

Ian took a trip today to the Maritime Aquarium in Norwalk. He really enjoyed watching the fishes take a bath (in his words- sssss bafff) and seeing the staaa fish and had a blast playing in the soft play place. He fell asleep on the way home and when we got in the house he woke briefly to be changed into pjs and he's out like a trout...

Almost 17 months

Tomorrow Ian is 17 months old. He's learning things so fast these days. This weekend he showed off his dancing abilities and knows the If you are Happy song and claps his hands, stomps his feet and yells hooray. But he'll groove to any music while doing other things. Eating has been a challenge with him lately and meal times can be frustrating. I've taken a new tactic today and started ignoring his eating and letting him just take it at his own pace. It must be working a bit because tonight's dinner was much better and we were all smiling by the end of it and there were no tears. Ian LOVES the swimming and is getting better at kicky kicky and splashy splashy. Ian also yells BALL at the top of his lungs when running all over the house. And Ian still has a thing for cleaning - dust is his new word and he will bend down wherever and brush his hand back and forth to mimic my dusting or sweeping. I guess I must be constantly doing it because he loves it and especially goes crazy for the swifter.

Day two of freezing cold

We aren't going anywhere again today. Later I will post the video of Ian playing mailman. But until then here is another picture from yesterday with Ian wearing Dada's hat. He really likes hats.

Ian update

So things are going around here. Ian's a busy guy these days - I have to keep him busy to tire him out but it seems to be working with 2-3 hour long naps most days. But between the ice and snow storms we've had we tend to spend a lot of time indoors. Good thing we have a few things that help distract him. Ian loved Thomas (Thsss) now - we have cousin Lucas to thank. He has watched the show a few times and pushes his little Thomas that Lucas gave him as he watches the trains on TV. Ian still doesn't understand the concept of TV since he watches so little. but he recognizes the songs when they come on the IPod and when you tell him to go get Thomas he knows what to get. Ian also identifies Elmo though he doesn't watch any of him anymore - he has an Elmo toy and a book with in it which he calls Nemno- his version of Elmo. Ian still loves the bath and when we were at Target we found Thomas bubble bath and he was in heaven that day. Now he has a little Thsss for the bath. We are still the only kid in the swim class on Wednesday mornings. Yesterday all Mr. Ian wanted to do was float on his back and play with a rubber duck. it wsan't until his bath later that night that he wanted to "scoop" and kick. Other things he's doing - when you hear him yell BA BA he wants you to sing Ba Ba Black Sheep. He's great with B words - ball, bottle, bath, baba for sheep. And he can identify people - when we stand in his room and tell him to go wave to Peter next door he goes to the window to be lifted up to wave to Peter. He still doesn't say Peter, but he says Deb Deb for his wife and yesterday Steven got him to say Jake for Jacob their son. Eating - Mr. Stinky hasn't been eating very well for me this week - the usual things that he'd usually love he just doesn't eat. Not sure what is going on but he's had wet and dirty diapers so I'm not worried yet. He's such a little guy though as you can see from the bath pictures. He has shot up though and is a lot taller and longer through the arms. His tops are 18 month sized but pants still fall off him if they are 12 month. But they are getting too short. This morning Ian is all dressed up - but that is because its so cold here that even though the heat is set at 68 in the house parts of it are probalby low 60s so we layer up. I'm not even venturing outside today - there was about 2 inches of light fluffy snow which is nothing but I'm not dealing with getting the little guy in and out of his outside clothes just to run errands that can wait until the weekend. Plus I work from home so why leave if I dont have to today? The stew is in the crockpot (Thanks Joyce for that Christmas present!) and I'm on my second cup of coffee.

Of course there are no pictures since I take Ian by myself to swimming but trust me you'd love to see his huge grin when swimming. He loved it. Tuckered himself out so much that he fell asleep on the drive home and proceeded to sleep for three hours after I moved him to his crib. The little guy has been asking for a "bath" ever since. He thinks its a big bath. Even this morning he woke up aksing for a bath. We are going to the tennis club today (maybe if they can find me a game) so that Ian will stay with the babysitter there. I need to get him more used to being away from Steven and I for bits of time.

Still wearing the hat

Ian is still wearing the red sox hat and gets really upset when it comes off and he can't put it back on. And he is still enjoying the tool bench. We went to the YMCA yesterday to check out the pool before swimming next week and Ian was very interested in what the kids were doing. We all might go on a mystery ride today - its sunny but cold.
