Eh - what a Monday

So first off my newspaper wasn't delivered this morning - no big deal since we are supposed to get it Thurs to Sunday anyway and the extra days have been a bit of a bonus. Let's see if I get it later this week. Then around 8 my cell phone rang - it was the doctor's office. They had been trying to get me for a few days but left messages at 0579, when my cell phone ends in 0577. If they had left them at 0578 (my boss's cell phone) I might have gotten them. Anyway - I failed my one hour glucose test and now have to take a three hour one. I really failed it too - passing is anything under 135, I scored a 174. Not the time to be cheering big numbers. I also needed to go get that Rho Gham shot - which I knew about. Then as I was calling Steven to tell him he calls me and is coming home because he threw his back out. All this hard work is catching up with him. He could barely move. He's basically zonked out on the couch today. Anyway - on the way to work I called to set up a nurses' appointment to get the Rho Gham injection - they got me in at 3:20 this afternoon. I went to Danbury hospital and got the injection from the blood bank. Now when you walk into the lobby and go to the elevators you expect the second floor to be up right? Wrong - I got on an elevator going up and realized that the lobby is actually the fifth floor and I should have gone down. I rode it up and down again before getting off in the right place. Fifteen minutes later I got the stuff (sounds like a drug deal doesn't it) and then headed across the street to my doctor's office. The nurse (JoAnne) was very nice. She said - hey you are the lady we've been leaving messages for all week. Anyway - I asked her about the glucose tests and she gave me good information and explained things a little more to me which was good. She gave me my shot (I hate shots) and then got me my paperwork for the three hour glucose test. If I fail this one then I have gestational diabetes. It isn't too bad except for the fact that the baby could be large (over 9 pounds) and have trouble going through labor. And - I am more at risk for developing type 2 diabetes as would be the child later in life. If I do have it then they monitor my diet and exercise. I realize that in the past month or so before the one hour test I didn't eat normally or exercise enough with all the travel I was doing. So I have to get back on the wagon with all of that. I guess playing tennis isn't enough...

Nasty Muggy Weather

I hate it when you get out of the shower in the morning and then immediately start to sweat. What point was the shower? Its one of those days here. Luckily we don't get them often and if I can make it through the next week relief might be in sight. I like fall so much better than summer! Tonight is the cocktail party at Steven's boss' house that kicks off the tennis tournament that supports the non-profit Grassroots Tennis program in Danbury. Its a women's doubles tournament and I am playing in it tomorrow. I hope I can find something presentable to wear - and cool. I've been exercising in really big, old t-shirts, and shorts - but this crowd might expect something a little more presentable! Hopefully my biggest tennis skirt still fits. Its supposed to be muggy tomorrow too. Tons to do here at work too - don't get me started on all of it! Steven's been busy too - working six days a week with only one day off. I think in a couple weeks we might have a two day weekend - how novel! And of course we have to start on the babies' room. We have a chair and ottoman, daybed and trundle bed in there that need to be moved out and I am still not sure what to do with the dresser. It might just stay. Its huge though. I have to clean out that closet with all my clothes this weekend. Then I'll have room for the baby stuff we have to fill it with. Right now I'm a little stressed - but I keep telling myself all we really need to take this kid home is a car seat! But we don't even have that yet...

Finished Harry Potter in record time

So I returned from the AEPhi Council meeting at 4:30 on Sunday and by 8 PM last night had finished the seventh Harry Potter. OK - so I only had to go into work for a couple hours yesterday which helped, and it was pouring rain, so I really couldn't do anything outside, and Steven rented both Bourne movies to catch up before the third one comes out, but I am a quick reader! I liked it - the last half of the book was great. So now its on my bookshelf with the other six books. Its funny looking at them all together - the first three are relatively thin in comparison to the last four. We still haven't seen the movie which came out last week but I think I'll get there at some point.

In other news - baby Stermain is making the belly move with his or her kicks. Steven even saw it last night. I think that I've lost weight since the appointment last week - maybe it was all that fluid that I was retaining from the humid climates I had been in. Did the one hour glucose test yesterday - the blood draw place was much better this time - well it was a different one than the other so anything would have been better than that other place. The only reason I waited was because I followed the doctor's directions to drink the fluid a half hour before going to the blood draw place at least a half hour before they needed to do the test. I waited about 40 minutes... no one else was there, and it took like two minutes once the girl drew the blood. Oh well. Hopefully I passed with flying color and no three hour glucose test is needed.

Latest baby update

I had my appointment bright and early at 8 AM this morning. It was with another doctor in the practice and now I start my third trimester. She said that I am just finishing 26 weeks and starting 27 - which apparently is the third trimester - I thought I had another week. I had a "growth spurt" this month - which I guess is a nice way of saying I have gained weight! But the belly measurements are also on the bigger side for where I am week wise - so this baby might be a little further along than we realize. If I measure big next visit they will do another ultrasound to see the actual size of the baby - so maybe we can finally find out boy or girl! Steven told me to eat up so I get bigger... Lets see - within the next week I go for my 28 week one hour glucose and blood test. Within a week after that test I will have to go get a RoGam injection - basically since I am A-negative the baby might be positive and our blood wouldn't mix. Not an issue until labor and delivery but I have to get a shot of RoGam which I pick up at the blood bank at Danbury Hospital and take to the doctor's office to get a shot which a nurse can do. So I will be busy in and out of the doctor's over the next few weeks. My next appointment is August 15th. Other things this week - I have to begin calling day cares again to get pricing and visit them. But I'm gone Friday for work... so who knows when that will happen!

Glad to be in New England!

I definitley appreciate the weather in New England after experiencing July in Orlando! My ankles haven't quite stopped swelling yet - but give it a day or two with little humidity and they will go back to normal! At work today - catching up after almost two and a half weeks of being gone. Definitely looking forward to pilates tonight since I feel like I've gained almost the whole 25 pounds I'm supposed to with this baby in the last week alone. I definitely look pregnant now. We have some pictures that I will post when I upload them at home. Got in a little late last night due to the thunderstorms in the area. Home by 10 ish I think though.

This blog should be called my life on the road. I am at a conference in Orlando that is at Disney World. Steven and I flew down on Thursday morning and then drove up to spend a couple days with his parents at their house just north of here. Boy is it hot! Don't know how people can stand it all the time. Saturday we drove back to Orlando, checked in to the hotel - its nice but in the midst of a renovation - and then explored around the hotel a bit - there are a few pools but they are too crowded with kids. Then Saturday night Steven took me to Downtown Disney for dinner and to see Circ de Sole (forgive the spelling if its wrong!) We have some pictures from around Downtown disney and will post once I return. He left yesterday afternoon and my conference started yesterday. Today was the golf and tennis tournaments - I played tennis and felt good - actually came in third in points and played in the finals - but unfornately my partner and i lost - but the girl on the other team plays first singles for her high school tennis team - so that makes me feel better about it. i played a lot better than some of those men out there and I am six months pregnant! Home on Wednesday - and I hear its hot there. Going to NH this weekend though - can't wait for that!

Back - but not for long

I got back about 11 PM on Sunday night from my week at Convention. It was a long week - but good - not that stressful but I was going from morning to night every day. The biggest change was that my ankles started swelling - that looks lovely in dressy sandals! Sunday afternoon I got to meet up with Brian and Tina - I am so glad that worked out - and see the girls! Addison was so cute and Payton had grown so much since I had last seen them. And I got practice baby-holding which is very important! I left the diaper changing to Tina :) I slept until 10 AM yesterday and then tried to catch up with things around the house but didn't get quite as caught up as I wanted. Today I'm at work for a bit before we go meet up with friends in Ridgefield for a concert in the park tonight. I'm glad its the Fourth tomorrow - but I don't think I'll be doing anything exciting since Steven has to work. Then its up at like 4 AM on Thursday to travel to Florida. Its a pretty full week... and I don't return home until next Wednesday night... I feel like I'm gone the whole month!

On the baby front - I think I felt it moving Sunday night when I got into bed. Steven says that the baby heard his voice so that is why it started moving around in there. Which might very well be true! It happens usually when I am laying on my side - I haven't felt it sitting or while moving around yet. Next appointment is July 17th...
